What better way to learn about the world than to travel it. And vacationing with your family should be a great experience! Our Panama Family Adventures are designed with children in mind, interweaving encounters with nature, adventure, diverse culture, rich history, and a lot of fun for the whole family.
Day 1
Arrival to Panama
Upon arrival to Panama the group will be met in the Tocumen International airport by an Isthmian Adventures representative and escorted to your accommodations in Panama City
Day 2
Masters of the River, the Embera People
This is a perfect opportunity to visit an indigenous village in the midst of a wonderful natural setting that supports the harmony of their lifestyle and traditions. A river dwelling population requires dugout canoes to access their community. At the Emberá village we will be greeted with dancing and music. We will learn about Emberá customs and their relationship with nature. After a lunch of fish, plantain, and fresh fruit served in traditional style we say hasta luego to our new friends and head back to Panama.
Meals Included: B, L, D.
Day 3
The Wild Side of the Panama Canal
This day combines the thrill of encountering wildlife in their natural habitats while passing in the shadows of the mammoth cargo ships transiting the Panama Canal. Gatun Lake, with a surface area of 423 square-kilometers, was created in 1914 as the main waterway for the canal and contains many small islands (former hilltops) that provide protected natural habitats for many of the animals that live in the region.
From the comfort of our expedition boat which allows shoreline access to the rainforest covered islands we will search for white-faced capuchin, mantled howler monkey, Central American spider monkey, and Geoffrey’s tamarin. We are likely to spot green iguana and three-toed sloth resting on tree branches, crocodile napping on beaches, osprey hunting for peacock bass, snail kite, and keel-billed toucan. At mid-day, we will visit Miraflores Locks and enjoy lunch with an exclusive terrace view of the massive vessels transiting the locks. This afternoon we make the short flight via AirPanama to the Chiriqui highlands, a haven of coffee and Quetzales.
Meals Included: B, L, D.
Day 4
River Rafting in the Chiriqui Highlands
One of the most popular activities with families and adventurous travelers is the white water rafting of the Chiriquí highlands. One of the great benefits of rafting in Panama is that its watershed provides for excellent rafting year-round. Before we put into the river, you’ll receive a full safety briefing from our guides. Once in our rafts, the river will take us on a thrilling ride through Class 2 & 3 rapids. Midday, we picnic on the shaded banks of the river on a delicious picnic spread laid out for us by our guides, then continue to our take-out spot midafternoon before we return to Boquete.
Meals Included: B, L, D.
Day 5
Isla Games and the Gulf of Chiriqui
Make sure to pack your swimsuit and sun block for today! The Gulf of Chiriqui has more the 1500 small islands and today we will visit one of the most beautiful. After a short drive (90 min) from Boquete to the small port community of Boca Chica, we will meet our boat and captain who will escort us to our island destination for the day. With little else than the resident hermit crabs and black spiny iguanas, Isla Gamez is a completely uninhabited island lined with tropical palm trees, and surrounded by soft white sand and blue green water.
On the agenda for today are a multitude of activities: kayaking, snorkeling, soccer, volleyball, kite flying, sand castles, and beach combing. For those interested in relaxing, a nap in hammock in the shade or catching some rays in the sun may be just what you need. At lunch we will enjoy and beachside picnic.
Meals Included: B, L, D.
Day 6 – Boquete Tree Trek Mountain Resort – Zip Line & Hanging Bridges Walk
We spend a full day enjoying the cloud forest, zip lining and an exciting walk through the canopy. While the zip line is a thrill ride through the canopy, our hike follows an undulating footpath connected by suspended bridges, taking you high above the treetops and into the canopy. Accompanied by our naturalist guides we will learn all about this emerald ecosystem. In the evening we make our way back to Panama City via the evening COPA flight to Tocumen.
Meals Included: B, L
